Ghost MV1 Quick Start Guide - What's in the box

Charging

Before you use your Ghost MV1, you need to charge it up completely. If you’re just charging over USB, Ghost recommends leaving it to charge overnight. If you purchased the fast charger, it should only take about two hours. The red light on the battery will turn off when it’s ready to go, or the light on the fast charger will turn green. When it’s charged, push the battery into the MV1 until it clicks into place.

Ghost MV1 Charging

Setting the temperature

The MV1 ships in travel mode, and all you have to do to put it in standby mode is hold the front button until the light turns on. Then press the front button three times quickly to enter vape mode. Hold the front button for two seconds to show the MV1’s current battery charge, release and hold it for two seconds again to show the target temperature. Press the front button to cycle through temperature -- for your first session we recommend starting on level three, which is three yellow dots, but first we’ll run a burn-off.

Burnoff

Once your Ghost MV1 is charged, we recommend running a burn-off cycle before use to make sure there’s no residue left over from manufacturing or shipping. With nothing in the oven, turn the MV1 to concentrate mode, or three red dots. Hold the heating button on the back of the device and hold it until it shuts off, but don’t draw on the MV1. Repeat this process two or three times, until you don’t smell anything. Set the temperature back to the third power level, and wait for it to cool down while you grind your herbs.

Medium grind, not too fine

Ghost suggests a coarse grind and a loose pack for the MV1, and we’ve found it’s actually fairly forgiving. We recommend keeping it coarse enough that it doesn’t fall through the holes on the bottom of the crucible.

Concentrates are a different beast

The Ghost MV1 is more than happy to handle stickier substances, thanks to its concentrate mode. Our full concentrate guide will help you with loading, heating, and inhaling, as the process looks pretty different than it does with herbal mode, and there are some new considerations.

Ghost MV1 Loading the Crucibles

Loading the crucibles

The crucible lids don’t hook onto the crucible in any way, they just sit on top of them, so you have to be careful while loading. Set the lid aside and lightly fill the crucible with herbs. You can tamp them down just a little bit, but don’t press too much. The easiest way to open the oven is to place your thumb against the button, and roll it towards the back of the device. Set the crucible in the holder, and tap the side if it isn’t settled into position, with the screen level with the metal around it.

Adjustable airflow

Before you’re ready to vape, you also need to extend the mouthpiece. It’s not just for ergonomics though, as how far the mouthpiece is extended affects the MV1’s resistance. If you want to open up the airflow, you can pull the mouthpiece out further from the heatsink, or push it in to raise the resistance.

Hold it, then hit it

Hold the black button on the backside of the MV1 to turn on the heating element. You’ll feel an immediate buzz letting you know it’s warming up, and a second buzz to let you know it’s ready to go. From a cold start this will take around 10 seconds, but only two or three seconds if it’s already warmed up. Once you feel the second buzz, start drawing, and keep holding the button until you’re done with each hit.

Soft and slow

The best way to get great hits from your MV1 vaporizer is by taking slow, steady draws without pulling too quickly. You can keep drawing for ten seconds or more, and you’ll find that the flavor and density start to pick up a lot the longer you keep inhaling. You can pick up the speed slightly as the hit goes on, but the idea is to keep it slow so the air has plenty of time to cook the herbs on its way through.

No stirring needed

Stirring can be a pain, but if you find the session is dying out a little sooner than you’d like, you have some options. Open the oven door, and tap gently on it a few times to jostle the herbs in the oven. When the vapor starts to thin out, you can also rotate the crucible 180 degrees in the holder for a few more hits.

Dump out the crucible

Our full cleaning and maintenance guide will walk you through the complete disassembly and cleaning, but you can save yourself some time by making sure to clean out the crucible right after each session. Just make sure you open the hatch and wait a minute for the crucible inside the MV1 to cool down before you try and take it out.
